Artist Profile
Pham Hong Son, born 1967 in Vietnam, pursued his passion in the art from a very early age. He attended the Children’s School of Fine Art when he was 9 years old, and later graduated from the Hanoi Fine Art University. He grew up during the war, but that did not deter him from seeking opportunities to travel, to experience and to learn.

“I started to travel early and extensively. After each journey, the impressions that lingered with me were the landscapes of the riverside, the boats that lay still under the baking sun, the slender bridges that faithfully led passengers to their homes over the flooding waters, the delicate and rudimentary houses made of wood and bamboo supported by nothing but skinny poles, women breaking up the earth to prepare for the planting season and fishermen, wielding their graceful nets in search of the ever elusive catch. With just a minimum of colour, I wish to harmonise myself with the indigenous creatures and people of the land, where black and white seem to carry colour, scent, romance and rhythm, with a touch of natural music from the water and wind.”
